Prosecutors in December dropped charges against Lehrmann over fears the trial was harming Higgins' mental health. Lehrmann, who worked in the same office as Higgins, pleaded not guilty and maintained his innocence. The ACT government in December set up the inquiry to check the conduct of criminal justice agencies after allegations of political interference in the trial. Chief Minister Andrew Barr said his government would check if it was against the law that two journalists had received the inquiry report before it was made public.

CNN —The Australian government is introducing legislation to terminate a lease of a new Russian embassy near Parliament House in the capital Canberra, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Thursday. “The government has received very clear security advice as to the risk presented by a new Russian presence so close to Parliament House,” Albanese told reporters in a televised press conference. The land proposed for the second Russian embassy lies directly adjacent to Parliament House, Australian Home Minister Clare O’Neil said alongside Albanese. “We’re acting quickly to ensure the leased site does not become a formal diplomatic presence,” the prime minister said. The prime minister said that coalition leadership had been briefed and would be supporting the legislation.

Andrew Barroway, 57, was arrested in Colorado while staying at an Aspen hotel with his wife. The Arizona Coyotes suspended Barroway from his position as a minority owner, Aspen Daily News reports. The Scottsdale resident is currently a minority owner of the Coyotes, but he held majority ownership between December 2014 and July 2019, per Aspen Daily News. Then, at 5:23 p.m., the team said: "The National Hockey League is aware of the arrest of Arizona Coyotes' minority owner Andrew Barroway. According to the affidavit obtained by Aspen Daily News, Barroway's wife "had bruising on her ankles, knees, and blood on her hands."
